 Other: Thread Journaling:

My 1999 school photo revolved around a latin theme — hence, my little chihuahua & my very colorful, festive shirt. ’90s fashion, eek. But really, I’m not embarrassed… I love seeing how my style has evolved. ♥

 Chosen criteria:

 1. Use an old school photo of yourself on your layout.
 4. Use ribbon in a fun and/or unusual way on your page.

 Techniques:

To mimic the design on my shirt, I splattered blue, yellow, pink, orange, and purple paint on a sheet of cream vellum. I then let it dry and placed it under a stack of heavy boxes to flatten out. Afterwards, I cut random rectangles from the vellum and did the same with the blue cardstock. The vellum actually softens the impact of the very bold ocean blue color, so it blends in more with the white background and the light blue denim of my jeans in the photo.

Speaking of softening, I inkjet printed my photo on another sheet of white cardstock, cut it out, and then dropped water in a few random places, allowing the ink to bleed and run. This creates coherency in the layout’s design and adds to the vibe!

Since one of the challenge points prompted me to use ribbon in an unusual way, I decided to braid it — something I’ve never done before, but it looks quite pretty and very fun with the colors I used. To keep the ends from coming undone, I stuck a brad through all three layers of ribbon at each end; there are actually two little braids, so four brads in total were used.

Look closely: I also hand stitched the lines of my journaling spot! :)
