i said a hip hop, hippity hop to the blog hop

This is a Better Living Through Scrapbooking Blog Hop post!

So glad you could join us! In case you don’t know, I’m Katie, and this is obviously my blog, or creative blog as I call it.

As part of the design team, my assignment for this blog hop was to create a project introducing myself or my style. It’s difficult for me to define my style using standard scrap lingo, like “shabby” or “traditional” or what have you. In fact, I call my style progressive — I’m constantly learning and evolving, and I love experimenting and trying new things. With that comes a love for DIY, so it should come as no surprise that I love to either tweak or make a lot of scrapbooking embellishments myself. I also love cute things — I can’t resist them — so, combining those two concepts led me to making these:

Japanese fabric-inspired brads!

Japanese fabric can get really expensive, especially if you order it directly from Japan. I wanted to come up with a different way to incorporate the cute images printed on the fabric into my own projects, so I grabbed some spare, plain white fabric I had in my stash, iron-on transfer paper, and set to work!

Using scans of Japanese fabric as my starting point, I resized and edited different parts of the print I liked the most in Photoshop. Once I was satisfied, I flipped the image horizontally (since iron-on transfers work backwards), and then printed it out onto the iron-on transfer paper. Afterward, I simply ironed the design onto my fabric. Pretty easy to do with supplies I already had on hand!

All I had left to do was to use my I-Top templates and tool to create the brads. So much fun!

But showing you our projects isn’t all we’ve got in store for you! Here’s the dealio:

Better Living Through Scrapbooking has a fabulous prize pack up for grabs, thanks to Plaid! We will be giving away a Mod Podge starter pack, plus a selection of FolkArt paints, stencils and some Extreme Glitter! This prize pack is worth $50 retail, and will be awarded to one blog hop participant that comments on ALL of the blog posts during the hop.

If for some reason that isn’t enough to draw you in, guess what? Our DT members Brenda, Kas, and Kim have generously offered up RAKs on their blogs as well! So that’s three more prizes you have a chance at snagging. Who doesn’t love free swag?

Remember: All you need to do is comment on all the blog posts! That’s it. No special requirements. You have until October 2, 2010 to leave comments. After that, winners will be announced.
