Journaling:

1. I count the European way — thumb first. 2. I am allergic to elastic. 3. I once worked in a photography studio. 4. My first autograph was from Kevin Zegers. 5. My favorite fruit is pomegranate.

Chosen criteria:

2. Use the word FIVE or the number 5 in a fun and interesting way on your page.
3. Use alphabet stickers somewhere in your page design but NOT as the title.
4. Place your journaling on strips of paper, or cut your journaling into strip of paper and place them on your page.
5. Use star shapes somewhere on your page.

Techniques:

To create my custom background, I followed the steps below:

  1. First, I laid out my glitter alpha stickers in a sort of diamond shape, being aware that I wanted some letters’ edges and flourishes reaching far enough to be visible under the layering I would do once my background was completed.
  2. Then, I mixed the Parrot Blue paint and water and spritzed it over the letter stickers in random fashion. This created a very watered down, watercolor-like layer of paint on the cardstock.
  3. After the first layer of paint had dried, I mixed a new batch of paint and water, this time with barely any water and a little bit (just a pinch!) of Ranger Perfect Pearls (I used a bronze color). This is basically homemade glimmer mist! I wanted my paint to be more opaque, which is why I didn’t use a whole lot of water; it just depends on your personal preferences and what look you’re trying to achieve. Once I was satisfied with my mist (I tested it on a scrap of cardstock before spraying it on my actual project), I sprayed over the letter stickers once again. If there’s some pooling, simply use a paper towel and dab the liquid up. You can also create cloud-like effects by dabbing the paint soaked paper towel on your cardstock.
  4. Peel off your letter stickers — carefully! — and then outline the masked letters in black pen. Now you have a cool design to work over; just add papers and embellishments and you’re good to go! :)

Aside from the cute bird stamp, the rest of the For the Luv of Art stamps you see are actually branches of the tree stamp which I used in my previous project. I simply cut them off the tree. Since the stamps are acrylic, you can easily piece them back together on an acrylic block to use the whole image once more!

Using Ranger Perfect Medium, I stamped the branches in random places before applying Perfect Pearls in bronze over the images, creating a metallic look.
