shadow is my little halloween kitty! these photos of him were taken last year — you might recognize the black cat and his pumpkin from a hanging i made. crazy daisy’s october main kit contains the perfect papers and embellishments to create some spooky cool pages. can i just tell you how in love i am with my mind’s eye’s haunted collection? brilliant. it’s like psycho meets edgar allan poe meets… velvet? and all on kraft paper. gorgeous!
this layout is pretty straightforward; i used ellison die cuts as inspiration for my pumpkin shapes and went to work creating little frames for the photo of shadow and various embellishments. made without any paint or stitching, by the way. unusual for me these days, but i really, really like it!
le zombi du noir, 12x12
supply list:
- patterned paper: basic grey eerie collection poison
- alpha: prima black alphabet stickers
- journaling spot: my mind’s eye meadowlark collection dawn cards
- buttons: jenni bowlin studio vintage halloween chipboard
- other: lace trim
- not in kit: orange vellum; basic grey max and whiskers collection micro monogram stickers; transparent overlay; acrylic paint; mod podge dimensional magic, thread
this has to be one of my favorite layouts to date… and it was surprisingly simple to create. the key is definitely the basic grey paper. WOW. there is so much to see. i am in love with the urban, graffiti feel, and it reminds me of ’60s cartoon montages, the kind you might find in the opening to scooby doo. very cool.
i’m also pretty fond of my red hand print. my mom actually walked into the room right as i applied the paint to my hand, and she had a momentary freak out, thinking i was bleeding everywhere! no way, jose. i would have fainted. but it looks really sweeeeet layered on top of the basic grey paper, various transparencies i attached with stitches, and the neat jenni bowlin chipboard buttons. i also painted the prima alpha a cream color and used some leftover alpha stickers from september’s kit. recognize ‘em?
the most experimental part of this layout was printing zombie me onto a transparency as well as a sheet of orange vellum. because the transparency was not inkjet-compatible, i used mod podge dimensional magic to seal the photo, allowing the various inks to blend together and create a ghostly image. the vellum soaked the ink up pretty well, but i decided to distress it by applying dimensional magic to that particular photo, too, resulting in some wrinkles. i’m definitely pleased with the end result! and my hat’s off to people who develop cool zombification apps, because i am not nearly that good at applying makeup! the stamped bubble wrap dots were dimensional magified, also, creating nice, raised texture.
